Juan Marcos was the only Filipino Officer's Steward who did not jump Ship when USS Walker the Philippines. He is constantly seen in the books serving Captain Reddy. In Rising Tides he is wounded and loses a leg in the Battle of the Dueling Ground. He is mention in Firestorm while he convalesces Taarba-Kaar 'Tobasco' replaces him. He rejoins Walker and resumes his duties in Iron Gray Sea Taarba-Kaar 'Tobasco' is assigned to help him. In Deadly Shores he helps fight off the Grik and is saved by Captain Reddy.
He provides much comic relief in the books especially his arguments with Earl Lanier Walker's ship's cook.
